No, facebook doesn't notify you if your friendship request was rejected. You can also ignore a friendship request and it will eventually disappear from your list without the other person being notified.
If you remove someone from your friends list it doesn't notify them either, but they will probably notice eventually as you will no longer show up in their friend list.

Two ways I think; From the friends menu select All Friends, and there should be a remove friend option next to each entry.
You can also block someone in the privacy settings which stops them finding or re-adding you again.

If you decline someone on facebook does the individual you declined receive a mail saying that friendship was rejected?Does anyone know???
